Faraid Calculator

Select the family members who would survive you to get an estimated Faraid distribution according to the Shafi'i mazhab.

Based on Mazhab Shafi'i

Who are the surviving family members?

Tick who survives, and set the number where relevant. Automatic hijab (blocking) rules are applied for you.

How this calculator works

This is calculated according to Mazhab Shafi'i, using fixed Quranic shares (fard), residuary (asabah) rules, and 'awl (proportional reduction) where shares exceed the estate. In Singapore there is no radd — any portion not allocated under faraid passes to Baitulmal, rather than being returned to the heirs. Hijab (blocking) rules between heirs are applied automatically as you enter your family.

Your Estimated Faraid Distribution — per $100,000

  • Select your surviving heirs and press "Calculate" to see an estimated distribution appear here.
Estimate only. Does not account for debts, Wasiat, Hibah, jointly held assets or CPF/insurance nominations. For your actual family and asset situation, speak to Alep.
Full = same father and mother as you. Consanguine (paternal) = same father, different mother. Uterine (maternal) = same mother, different father.

You Now Know Your Faraid Shares.

But will everything you own actually be distributed this way?

Not necessarily. Your property ownership, CPF and insurance nominations, jointly owned assets, existing arrangements and family circumstances may affect what actually forms part of your estate and how different assets are distributed.

Faraid gives you the shares.
Inheritance planning helps you understand how those shares apply to what you actually own.

"Mr Alif from Istishari walked us through the entire process from understanding Faraid to setting up a proper Will without making it feel overwhelming or complicated. He made sure we actually understood the why behind each element, not just what to sign. What stood out was that he never rushed us. Mr Alif knows his stuff, explains it well, and genuinely makes sure you leave with clarity. Highly recommend. 10/10."

"I initially reached out to Ustaz Alep because I wanted to review my existing will and ensure that everything was in accordance with Islamic principles. Our Zoom session was informative and reassuring. Ustaz Alep explained the differences between Faraid and Hibah clearly, using practical examples that made the concepts much easier to understand. The will he prepared was thorough, well-structured, and thoughtfully put together — that level of detail gave me confidence that my loved ones will know what to do when the time comes."

Alep Faraid

Who Is Alep Faraid?

Assalamualaikum, I'm Alep.

I'm an Islamic inheritance planner and founder of Istishari Islamic Services, helping Muslim families in Singapore understand what actually happens to their assets when they pass away — and what they can do about it while they're still around.

My approach is not simply:
"Do you have an Islamic Will?"
Because a Will is only one part of inheritance planning.

I look at your family structure, Faraid heirs, assets, property ownership, CPF and insurance nominations, existing documents and, most importantly, what you actually want to achieve for your family.

Understand your situation first. Then plan accordingly.

  • Family structure
  • Faraid heirs
  • Assets
  • Property ownership
  • CPF & insurance nominations
  • Existing documents

The bigger picture

Your Faraid Calculation Is Only One Part Of The Picture

Imagine your calculation shows:

Wife — 12.5% Son — 58.33% Daughter — 29.17%

Does that automatically mean 12.5% of everything you own goes to your wife?

Not necessarily.

You may also have a jointly owned property, CPF nominations, insurance nominations, joint bank accounts, investments, assets overseas, or an existing Will or Hibah arrangement. Different assets may be affected by different ownership structures, nominations and arrangements.

Property Ownership

How a property is owned matters. Joint tenancy and tenancy-in-common can have very different inheritance consequences.

CPF Nominations

A valid CPF nomination affects how CPF savings are distributed after your passing.

Insurance Nominations

The treatment of insurance proceeds may depend on the type of nomination and policy arrangement.

Jointly Owned Assets

How jointly owned assets are treated may depend on the ownership structure, beneficial ownership, intention and other circumstances.

Overseas Assets

Assets outside Singapore may be subject to the laws and procedures of another jurisdiction.

Existing Arrangements

An existing Will, Hibah, nomination or other arrangement may affect how your overall inheritance plan works.

So the important question is not only "What are my Faraid shares?" It is also:

"Which of my assets will actually be distributed according to those shares?"

That is where inheritance planning begins.

What Do We Look At During The Consultation?

Your Family

Who are your potential Faraid heirs? Are there young children, elderly parents, stepchildren, adopted children or other family circumstances to consider?

Your Assets

Property, CPF, bank accounts, insurance, investments, business interests, overseas assets and other belongings.

Your Existing Arrangements

Will, CPF and insurance nominations, joint ownership, Hibah, and other documents — including any LPA you have in place for your lifetime (separate from what happens after passing).

Your Intentions

Who are you concerned about? Who should manage your children's inheritance? Who should handle your affairs? What are you actually hoping to achieve?

We understand the whole picture before deciding what planning may actually be appropriate.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the initial consultation really free?

Yes. The initial consultation is free, with no obligation to proceed with further planning.

I already have an Islamic Will. Can you review it?

Yes. We can review your existing Will together with your assets, nominations, family circumstances and intentions to understand whether the overall arrangement still achieves what you intended.

If Faraid already exists, do I still need an Islamic Will?

Faraid determines the entitlement of eligible heirs to assets forming part of the estate. An Islamic Will can serve other purposes, such as appointing an executor, documenting permitted bequests and leaving appropriate instructions for the administration of your estate. Whether you need one depends on your circumstances.

What happens if I don't do any planning?

Assets that form part of your estate will still need to be administered and distributed according to the applicable inheritance rules. Without clear appointments, nominations, records and instructions, however, your family may face greater uncertainty and administrative difficulty after your passing.

Does everything I own go through Faraid?

Not necessarily. The treatment of an asset may depend on its ownership structure, nominations, contractual arrangements and other circumstances.

Can we do the consultation over Zoom?

Yes. Consultations are available over Zoom, through home visits or other in-person arrangements.

What are Alep's credentials?

Is this Faraid Calculator an official inheritance determination?

No. It is an educational calculator intended to provide an initial estimate. Actual entitlement may depend on the complete family circumstances and other relevant factors.
